NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Pennsylvania State Representative Regina Bromell Young says everything she’s become started right here.

Raised in New Haven and a proud graduate of James Hillhouse High School, Young credits her upbringing for instilling the values that continue to guide her work today. From Lincoln Bassett to Hillhouse, her journey through New Haven public schools laid the foundation for a life centered on service, leadership, and community.

“New Haven built me,” is the message she carries — not just in words, but in action.

Young’s early experiences in the city shaped her understanding of people, struggle, and opportunity. That perspective would later fuel a career focused on community empowerment, education, and social services — work that eventually led her to elected office in Pennsylvania’s 185th District.

Now serving as a state representative, Young remains grounded in the lessons she learned growing up. Her story is one of gratitude — for the schools that educated her, the neighborhoods that raised her, and the people who poured into her along the way.

That gratitude is at the center of her return to New Haven.

On May 15, supporters will gather at The Q Bar and Kitchen for an evening in support of Young, but more importantly, to celebrate a journey that started in this city. It’s not just a campaign event — it’s a homecoming.

For Young, New Haven isn’t just where she’s from. It’s the reason she’s able to serve.
