NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Vibe is turning Friday and Saturday nights into a weekly destination for dance music, DJ culture and grown-folks energy with Allen “Dooley-O” Jackson as curator of The Back Room Dance Party, airing 6 p.m. every Friday and Saturday on The Vibe brining a collection of the best DJs in North America.

Dooley-O is more than a DJ. He is a New Haven hip-hop original — a rapper, producer, DJ, recording artist, multimedia creator and cultural connector whose work has helped shape the sound and spirit of Connecticut music for decades.

The Arts Paper described Allen Jackson, better known as Dooley-O, as one of New Haven’s long-running DJs, while another profile called him one of the city’s most prolific and pioneering DJs, MCs, recording artists, producers, TV hosts and graffiti artists.

That kind of history matters.

The Back Room Dance Party is built for listeners who remember when the DJ controlled the room, the music told a story and every blend had a purpose. With Dooley-O leading the direction, the show will bring together the energy of funk, soul, disco, hip-hop classics, house, Latin rhythms, R&B and party music — all with the kind of musical knowledge that only comes from years of living inside the culture.

Dooley-O’s background reaches deep into underground hip-hop. His Bandcamp bio identifies him as a Connecticut rapper-producer-DJ and notes that he is widely recognized in DJ circles for his connection to the Skull Snaps “It’s A New Day” break, one of hip-hop’s most important drum breaks. It also credits him as producer of the underground graffiti video series GTV, further connecting him to the visual and street-culture side of hip-hop.

That makes him the right person for this job.

The Vibe wanted someone who could do more than pick songs. The station needed someone who understands DJs, respects the craft and has the credibility to bring together serious talent from different cities, styles and generations. Dooley-O brings that credibility. He knows the music, he knows the culture and he knows what it takes to move a crowd.

As curator of The Back Room Dance Party, Dooley-O will help shape a weekend lineup designed to spotlight some of the best DJs in the country on one station. The goal is simple: give listeners a place to hear real DJ sets, real transitions and real party energy every Friday and Saturday night.

The Back Room Dance Party is not just another mix show. It is a space for DJs who still believe in selection, timing, rhythm and feel. It is for listeners who want the music to breathe, build and take them somewhere.

With Dooley-O guiding the room, The Vibe is putting the culture in trusted hands.
